CSS List

In CSS, unordered lists are shown using bullets, while ordered lists are shown using numbers or letters. You can also style your bullets, numbers, or letters. You can decide if your list is indented or not. If you choose for your list to be “outside”, it is not indented. If you choose for your list to be “inside”, it indents it further. If you would like to use an image in place of bullets, numbers, or letters, you can link the image into your CSS.

CSS Padding

Padding refers to the space between and elements border, and the actual element. The background affects the padding of the element. Like margins, you can tell the padding to either be the same or different on all sides.

CSS Margin

Margins do not have colors. You can set a margin using auto, telling it how long or wide to be in pixels, or by telling it how much of a percentage of the containing element it should be. You can either tell the margins to be the same all the way around (top, right, bottom, left), or you can give each side specific heights/widths.

Outlines are used to make an element stand out. They way that they do this is by putting the outline outside the border for the specific element. The possible properties for outlines are the color, style, and width.

Using CSS, you can specify border colors and properties. However, if you don’t have a border-style set, then none of your other border properties will work. Using CSS, you can either have all the sides of a border for a specific element be the same, or else you can have all of the sides of the border look different if you code each side individually. Or if you want to have all the sides of the border look different, you can use one code and say what you want the borders to look like, naming the borders starting at the top and going clockwise.

CSS Box Model

The CSS Box Model refers to the way the CSS and HTML interact. A Box Model has four components: margin, border, padding, and content. When you are calculating the width and height of an element, you need to make sure that all the px add up to the total “size” of the element. In Internet Explorer, you especially have to have a doctype declaration in order for your padding and border specifications to apply. Otherwise, Internet Explorer will automatically use your own, and your website won’t necessarily look the way you want it to.

In CSS, the main difference between fonts is whether the font has serifs or not. Therefore, the main generic text families in CSS are serif, sans-serif, and monospace. When you code for a font family, you can also include multiple fonts from the same family, so that if one font is not supported and won’t show up, there will be other fonts to fall back on. When a font is oblique, it means that it is leaning. Text font sizes can be set using px or em.

In CSS, you can code your text to be a specific color. You can also choose whether you would like your text to be justified left, right, or in the center. If you would like your text to be underlined, have a line through it, or be bold, italic, etc., you can also do this in CSS. In CSS, text transformation means that it you would like to have your text all capitalized or lowercase, you can use text transformation to make it do so.

CSS Background

Background is used to give specific elements backgrounds. You can import a background image or choose a background color. There are multiple ways to choose background colors. You can do so by typing in the name of the color you want, give it an RGB value, or else give it a hex value. If you use a background image, you can choose to have the image repeat or else only show up once.
